Meeting with U.S. Consul General Brian Heath

We were delighted to host U.S. Consul General Brian Heath yesterday at the Goethe University campus. He is the head of the largest Consulate General of the US in the world. It is more extensive regarding personnel and facilities than many US Embassies. It was a great pleasure for us to show you the building where Dwight D. Eisenhower had his office. The IG Farben Building was the most important place for the implementation of the Marshall Plan, which supported the reconstruction of Europe after the war. We Germany owes the Americans so much which that will never be forgotten.

Entry regulations for Russian citizens

As of 18.08.2022, all nationals of Russia who have valid visas for tourism and business travel (i.e. type C visas) are prohibited from entering/transiting through Estonia. Only the citizens of Russia who have a residence permit of an EU member state or a long-term visa (D visa) can enter Estonia, including for transit purposes. Citizens of Russia who are family members of an EU citizen are also allowed to cross the border of Estonia. When entering/transiting through Estonia, the status of a family member must be proven. The following are considered family members of an EU citizen:

  • spouse
  • a child under 21 years of age
  • dependent child or parent.

The decision whether or not to admit a Russian citizen to Estonia is always made by the local border guard based on the law. You can read more about the regulation of the Government of the Republic of Estonia here https://www.politsei.ee/en/restrictions-on-entry-for-citizens-of-the-russian-federation-since-19-09-2022.
